I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—
for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Dear Lord God our Father in heaven, praise your holy name. You are the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, may you reign in our hearts today and always. You are a God of perfect unity and harmony. You are an example for us, dear Lord. I pray that our leaders in Congress will seek peace and harmony, but also stand for what is right. May they not seek their own will, but your will dear Lord God. I pray they will seek to do good for all men and not to further their own intersts. May both parties come to an agreement on what needs to be done for this country. I pray too for President elect Obama, that you would give him strength to be a real leader and stand for what is good and right. Continue to be with President Bush as he and Laura prepare to leave the White House to the life they will now lead. Father we thank you today for this refreshing rain. Your provisions include exactly what the earth needs to sustain itself. Oh that we would listen to you! As we read and study your word today we see that you, Lord Jesus, were explaining the importance of agreement in prayer. Unless you are at the center of our lives, there will not be accord, only diversion of every kind. You are peace, and you are the solution to all of our needs. May we be honest with ourselves when we come into your presence. Are you sitting on the throne of our lives, or are we?

Will you be with President Bush today and with those in deliberations regarding the situation with Israel? Father you alone see and know the outcome. May we be constant in prayer today. Will you be with President Elect Obama and with the many that he has chosen to work with him. For those elected officials and those appointed, may they learn to work in accord with your word. Unless they do, there will not be oneness but division.

I pray for my family and those I love who have chosen to walk away from you. We are divided and the pain is severe. May they be willing to listen to you, opening their hearts to healing and restoration.

I know that politics can be a tricky field and that there are many who have their own personal agendas. I pray today that You would help every official to put his/her personal agenda aside to serve the greater good of the people they are governing. Lord, You know the need we have for unity in this country; none better. I pray, Lord Jesus, that the unity that You create in our government and in our country would be like the unity of a symphonic orchestra or a woven tapestry. While each instrument or thread may be beautiful in its own right, yet when all work together under the direction of a skilled conductor or weaver, something transcendent may be the result.

Father - It's good to start another new year with Your purpose and vision in mind. I can't wait to see the changes and progress You have in store for us throughout the days ahead. I thank You for all You did to see us through last year and for keeping a great many businesses solvent to see another day of hope for their existence.

Now I commit this day's affairs to You so that our Washington dealings will be characterized by bi-partisanship as the new Congress begins session. We have a great many difficult issues that need to be addressed and prioritized and the entire aura of our legislative body must be given sight and hearing to the dire crises we are up against as a country. Healthy banter is fully acceptable and necessary but unhealthy criticism and finger-pointing will get us no where. Show our elected officials that they must represent the greater good of us, the people they represent. Sibling rivalry must be put aside and conjugal unity must once again define our government. You hold peace and unity in Your very hands and that's what I ask enter into the new Congressional session opening up for 2009 just as "all the men of Israel got together and united as one man against the city -—Judges 20:11" our government will be equipped with the most important tool necessary to come against the trials our international community is facing right now. Because when we come together as a cord of three, our unity of prayerful purpose cannot be easily broken so in the name of Jesus I believe You will hear and answer our prayer according to Your cause, Amen.

Do we give ourselves to you in exchange for the life that we have been living? Are we willing to set aside our plans for yours?

Will you be with President Bush as he and his family worship you? He is still our president and he carries a heavy burden in keeping our Nation safe from harm and danger. Please bring a candidate whose life is free from drug usage and addiction and abuse. Bring a person to President-Elect Barack Obama who understands the heartbreak that is brought into people’s lives when drugs are substituted for Your place in a person’s life and heart. Father - When I consider the different military fronts we have assigned ourselves to in the world, I can't help but think about the homefront war that's being waged every single day in our own neighborhoods and on our very streets. Drugs have taken standards to an all-time low by using young school-age children for their bidding and have launched an all-time high in securing record dividends.

Our drug lords are no better than fanatical terrorist organizations that use children to lure or bomb innocent victims. These young people, who get wrapped up in drug trafficking, either wind up addicted to drugs or dead and neither alternative is acceptable. We need to focus more of our attention on fighting the many different civil wars facing our homefront because their sole aim is to divide us from within.

That's why I come to You fully expecting that You will weigh down the heart of Obama with Your heavy pressure of conviction so that he will allocate the resources and the leadership necessary to wage our own internal wars with the same aggression and fortitude that we use in assisting other countries with their own internal strife.

That's why Obama needs Your wisdom and help in the choice of Administrator of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, because we have no other choice available to us but to find a way to win the war on drug abuse and protect innocent lives that are damaged by drug trade and abuse. This societal demise has caused a great rift in our country and its ability to maintain internal peace. This evil presence is annihilating all measures of our people's ability to fulfill their pursuits of life, liberty and happiness in our land. It's very sad that we have become numb and comfortable with the sounds of bullet shots being fired all around us but that's what avoiding problems such as drug trafficking, child molestation and child pornography rings left unchecked, sex trafficking, and ignoring the seriousness of domestic violence creates on the streets and in the neighborhoods of many people in ordinary America. Our police forces are steadily being reduced because they are either needed over seas to fight to keep someone else's country safe or because of crippling budget issues.

Nonetheless, every day Americans are not seeing a growing sense of security on their own homefronts - at the local level of homeland security. We are seeing things growing much more critical and dangerous because of the economic crisis flailing out of control due to multiple different ignored issues compiling and colliding all at once.

Our country truly needs Your archangel to swoop down upon us and to guard many of us who are trying to live amidst this civil unrest which is all-consuming. It's attempting to drain us of Your peace and security each and every day. We cannot escape its clutches. We must learn to live amidst it with Your help and the help of a federal government bent on making state and local governments more accountable to the federal government. As Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" and as You said "there is no fear in love but perfect love casteth out fear because fear hath torment (1 John 4:18).." We do not have to fear because we know where we are going but it is difficult to walk the neighborhood or release our children to play with other children around our homes because of these simmering hot societal issues left unaddressed.

This is why we need You to help us to "be very careful, then, how we live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore we must not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. We must not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, infill us with Your Holy Spirit -—Ephesians 5:15-18." It is with all my faith and confidence that I hand these very practical prayer concerns over to You expecting full well that You will hear them and intervene in the way You see best fit. Father we are thankful for this new year and for your word. Your word is just as powerful today as it was in the day you spoke to the centurion. We say that if you were here today, walking around healing us, then we could believe. What about this centurion? It was his choice to believe the power in your word. What do we think today? Do we believe that all we have to do is believe you and you will heal us? Your word says so! When you created this world, you spoke and it was so.
We must first believe you and then we will see your power at work in our lives.

Will you be with President Bush and his family today? A new year will bring many changes and as he begins may he do so with you. Will you be with President Elect Obama and his family, and as he is making plans for the necessary changes, may he stop and seek your divine wisdom and guidance?
